The spy series The Night Agent is a huge hit on Netflix, currently ranking as the 10th most-watched English-language show of all time. Although it recently launched its third season, another show captured the top spot on Netflix’s charts earlier in 2026 and quickly became one of the year’s most talked-about new releases.

The six-episode series ‘Unfamiliar’ premiered on Netflix on February 5th and quickly became a hit. Within a month, the spy thriller climbed the ranks of Netflix’s global charts, even reaching the number one spot worldwide. This success is likely due to the positive reviews and enthusiastic response from both critics and viewers.

Critics on Rotten Tomatoes have given ‘Unfamiliar’ a positive score of 83%, based on six reviews. Viewers give it a slightly lower score of 67%. Because the show doesn’t have many reviews yet, its Rotten Tomatoes score could still change, even though it’s been out for a few weeks.

Notably, it isn’t currently ranking at all in the United States, where shows such as The Night Agent, Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model, The Hunting Party, Love Is Blind, and Bridgerton are currently the most-watched programs on the platform.

Decider praised Unfamiliar, with Joel Keller noting its intricate plot felt like something Harlan Coben might write. This is fitting, considering the show’s success on Netflix, which has become known for adapting Coben’s novels. Series like Run Away and Fool Me Once have all become popular hits on the streaming platform.

Currently, the show “Unfamiliar” has just one negative review on Rotten Tomatoes, preventing it from achieving a perfect 100% critics’ score. The review, posted by Charles Hartford of But Why Tho? A Geek Community, states that the show “is a tale that never fully comes together, though it does try awfully hard.” The first season ends with possibilities for a second season, but its renewal hasn’t been announced yet.
