Netflix‘s hit spy thriller series is not so hot when it comes to its audience score.
Since the beginning of 2026, Netflix has added a lot of great new shows and seasons. Popular shows like Bridgerton and The Lincoln Lawyer have returned with new seasons, becoming global successes. New hits for Netflix this year include series like Run Away, His & Hers, and others.
The new Netflix series, Unfamiliar, has quickly become a global hit. Released on February 5th, this 6-episode spy thriller has risen to become the most-watched show on Netflix worldwide as of today. Despite its popularity, however, it hasn’t achieved the same level of success across all regions.
I’ve been following the buzz around Unfamiliar, and it’s interesting to see what people are saying! Right now, it has a 67% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, which is good, but honestly, considering how popular it’s become on Netflix, I expected it to be even higher. It seems like a lot of people are really enjoying this German spy thriller. We’re still waiting to see what the critics think, though – their score hasn’t been released on Rotten Tomatoes yet.
I’ve been following the buzz around Unfamiliar, and so far it has four critic reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s not enough for an official score yet, but it gives you a good idea of what critics think. The good news is, three of those reviews are positive! Karina Adelgaard from Heaven of Horror particularly liked it, saying it’s a great show if you appreciate complex, flawed characters that feel really real. I’m excited to see what the final consensus will be!
So far, the only negative review of the first season of Unfamiliar on Rotten Tomatoes comes from But Why Tho? A Geek Community. Charles Hartford gave the Netflix series a 5.5 out of 10, stating that it “tries hard but doesn’t quite come together.” Even with these mixed reactions, Unfamiliar is still proving popular with viewers around the world on Netflix.
The German thriller series is gaining popularity in the US, currently ranking as the 4th most-watched show on Netflix. Called “Unfamiliar,” the series centers on Simon and Meret, former spies who now manage a secure location called The Nest, hoping for a peaceful life. But when someone from their past reappears, their carefully built world is thrown into question.
The first season of Netflix’s Unfamiliar ends in a way that suggests a second season is possible. As of today, neither the creator, Paul Coates, nor Netflix has announced any plans for a follow-up. However, because the show has been popular with viewers around the world, its chances of being renewed seem good. We may soon see official critic reviews as more are published in the week following the show’s release.
