Although Yellowstone and Landman’s finale are ending soon, if you’re in search of a top-rated Western series on Netflix, look no further! Despite its intense violence, it currently dominates the charts.
If you’ve finished watching Yellowstone and Landman, don’t worry! A highly popular, albeit violent, Western show is available to stream right now on Netflix.
Since its debut in December, Squid Game Season 2 has reigned supreme among Netflix’s television series, but now it has been unseated as number one by their latest release: American Primeval.
This six-part mini-series presents a grim, bloody depiction of life in the Old West. Set against the backdrop of Utah Territory during the year 1857, the series unfolds around various characters who struggle to endure as they each navigate their individual paths through this harsh environment.
In a single episode, American Primeval delves into genuine historical tragedies, including the appalling Mountain Meadows Massacre, which may prove to be one of the most shocking scenes of 2025. The show has been receiving considerable acclaim for its unyielding approach, though it has undoubtedly caused discomfort in some viewers as well.
American Primeval hits number one spot on Netflix charts
Currently, as I’m typing this, American Primitive has climbed to the top position on Netflix’s US TV show rankings. The six episodes were released on Thursday, January 9, which suggests that its gripping storyline of conflict and territorial struggle didn’t need much time to outrank other options available on the streaming platform.
According to a Reddit user’s account, it could be the most authentic representation they’ve ever witnessed of the early settlers.
Another individual concurred, stating that there were numerous posts praising it. Despite its intense nature, which was challenging for him to endure, being an academic specializing in western expansion, he found it genuinely authentic. It was a harrowing experience throughout.
The movie has been incredibly intense so far, and even though I knew from the trailers that it would be violent, nothing quite prepared me for the level of graphic and brutal scenes. As someone who’s studied history and frontier life, I thought I had a good grasp on just how tough things were back then, but wow!
The person stated, “It seems like nothing’s been as grimly intense in a Western film since ‘Bone Tomahawk.’ That movie from 2015 with the cannibals.
Another user described American Primeval as “intense, graphic, and strikingly honest,” further noting, “It’s an intense experience that I found hard to resist, even though I wished I hadn’t consumed it all at once. This modern western is a remarkable piece of art, earning a perfect 10/10 rating, and it significantly outshines traditional westerns.
“It is the BEST western I’ve seen in YEARS,” one added.
