Netflix astonished fans by unveiling a new anime project set in the world of Steel Ball Run from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. This announcement is part of their future content lineup and represents the latest installment in Hirohiko Araki’s extensive manga series.
Steel Ball Run JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure anime announced for Netflix
Netflix recently shared that the production of Steel Ball Run, an installment of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, is underway and will be available for streaming globally.
In this anime, Yasuhiro Kimura and Hideya Takahashi take on the role of directors. Toshiyuki Kato is in charge as the series director. Yasuko Kobayashi handles the series composition writing. Daisuke Tsumagari designs the characters and oversees the animation direction, while Yugo Kanno creates the music and Yoshikazu Iwanami manages sound direction. The animation production is handled by David Production.
The show is based on Hirohiko Araki’s comic book Steel Ball Run and takes place in 19th-century America during a historic horse race spanning the entire continent. A former jockey named Johnny Joestar, now confined to a wheelchair due to past injuries, allies with the rogue Gyro Zeppeli for a cross-continental equestrian competition.
In 1986, Araki initially introduced JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. This popular franchise has now sold more than 120 million copies globally. Its distinctive artwork, poses, and sound effects give it a distinct style. The series’ success has spawned anime adaptations, live-action films, video games, and even musicals. At present, Araki is publishing the ninth installment, titled The JOJOLands, in Ultra Jump magazine.
In simpler terms, Director Yasuhiro Kimura expressed his enthusiasm about being in charge of the anime adaptation of STEEL BALL RUN. This story involves characters participating in a grand race, each putting their personal convictions on the line.
He went on to say that the whole team feels this way and pours their heart into daily work. He expressed excitement about sharing his passion for the project with everyone and hoped for a joint endeavor along the journey.
Among the exciting offerings for Netflix Japan’s 10th anniversary lineup, I find myself eagerly anticipating the addition of a new project to their roster. This collection also features “Did Someone Happen to Mention Me?”, a captivating drama headlined by the esteemed Koji Yakusho, who won Best Actor at Cannes. Additionally, there’s “Straight to Hell”, an enthralling biographical tale centered around the life of renowned fortune-teller Kazuko Hosoki.
Netflix will share more details about Steel Ball Run on September 23.
