Netflix’s Delhi Crime is a gripping, though often difficult, series to watch, but it’s definitely rewarding. The Hindi-language crime drama debuted in 2019 and has continued with two more seasons. Season 2 came out in 2022, and the most recent, season 3, was released in 2025. Given the show’s popularity, many expect it to be renewed for a fourth season, though confirmation hasn’t been made yet.
Delhi Crime focuses on the investigations of three main characters – Shefali Shah, Rasika Dugal, and Rajesh Tailang. While the show follows a police procedural format, it doesn’t have separate cases each episode. Instead, each season presents one complete, self-contained crime. What makes Delhi Crime particularly impactful is that the stories are based on real-life events.
Netflix’s Delhi Crime Revolves Around True-Crime Stories From India
Netflix
Similar to shows like Law & Order: SVU, Delhi Crime deals with very difficult cases. However, this Netflix series is based on real, infamous crimes that happened in India. What sets it apart is the extensive research done to accurately portray these disturbing events from Delhi’s past, adding a level of unsettling realism that goes beyond typical fictionalized crime dramas.
The first season of Delhi Crime takes place immediately following the tragic 2012 gang rape and death of a young woman in Delhi. Season 2 focused on the Chaddi Baniyan Gang, a notorious group that has been committing crimes across India since 1987. The third season draws inspiration from the 2012 case of Baby Falak, a victim of sex trafficking.
Though Delhi Crime takes some artistic license with the real events it’s based on, it does so to encourage thought and understanding, not just to entertain. This makes it a challenging series to watch, but strong visuals, compelling characters, and a carefully managed level of tension help viewers get through it. Delhi Crime isn’t designed to be easy viewing.
Delhi Crime’s Short Seasons Make It A Great Binge (But You Might Want To Take It Slow)
Netflix
Watching Delhi Crime can be intense, but it’s a great choice if you want a well-made series you can quickly finish and that also makes you think. Each season is brief, with episodes between 36 minutes and an hour long. This allows the show to build suspense carefully without taking too long to deliver its payoff.
Be aware that shows like Delhi Crime can be emotionally difficult, so it’s best to approach them with care. While they might be challenging to watch, the most impactful stories are often the ones that stay with you the longest.
