The 1993 film version of the story was well-received, even earning Miranda Richardson an Oscar nomination. However, the recent 4-part Netflix adaptation was widely criticized by both reviewers and viewers. This Netflix version features Richard Armitage, famous for his role in The Hobbit, and Charlie Murphy, known from Peaky Blinders, as the leads in a complicated and intense love affair.

The film Obsession centers on William Farrow (Armitage), a London surgeon, who becomes dangerously attracted to his son’s fiancée, Anna Barton (Murphy). Despite mixed reactions, Rolling Stone praised Obsession, noting its skillful production and cinematic quality.
