Netflix revealed its plans for 2026, suggesting that nine popular shows from 2025 might not return until then, which has disappointed some viewers. While big hits like Stranger Things and Squid Game likely concluded in 2025, Netflix is preparing a large lineup for 2026. Fans can anticipate new seasons of favorites such as One Piece, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Bridgerton, Lupin, Emily in Paris, and The Gentleman. Plus, the world of Stranger Things will continue with Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, a new animated series that expands on the original story.
Following the release of Stranger Things 5 and the announcement of its Warner Bros. acquisition, Netflix revealed its upcoming TV shows for 2026 on the Tudum blog. However, Netflix’s preview of 2026 content confirmed that nine popular original series, which premiered new seasons in 2025 and were renewed, won’t be back until at least 2027.
Wednesday

I was so excited for Season 2 of Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday, but we fans had to wait almost three years because of the Hollywood strikes. Now, it looks like we’ll be waiting even longer for Season 3! They’re saying it won’t be out until at least 2027, though they’re finally starting production this year, which is good news.
Netflix has announced 16 actors who will return for Season 3 of Wednesday, and they’ve added Eva Green to the cast as a new character, Aunt Ophelia. Production is set to begin in February, and if everything goes according to plan, the season should be finished by late summer and released sometime between early and mid-2027.
Untamed

Although Untamed was initially intended as a one-time series, Eric Bana will reprise his role as Agent Kyle Turner in a second season. Netflix has confirmed that he’ll be investigating a significant new case in a completely new national park.
Production won’t start until February, and the team will move to Hawaii for Turner’s new investigation. Because of this, Season 2 is now expected to launch in 2027, rather than 2026.
Ginny & Georgia

The popular mother-daughter comedy-drama Ginny & Georgia has been renewed for seasons 3 and 4. Season 3 is expected to premiere in June 2025. Filming for the new season began in October and is scheduled to finish in February, but what happens after that is still unknown.
Ginny & Georgia creator Sarah Lampert initially planned for the show to conclude after four seasons. However, she now believes there’s potential for more stories to be told. If Netflix maintains its current release schedule, Season 4 likely won’t arrive until early 2027, and a possible Season 5 could extend the series into 2029.
Dept. Q

Matthew Goode is reprising his role as Detective Carl Morck for the second season of the Scottish crime series, Dept. Q. Production is slated to begin in early 2026, with filming once again taking place in Edinburgh.
It’s unlikely Morck will revisit any more old investigations in this grim detective story before 2027.
Ransom Canyon

Garrett Wareing, the star of Ransom Canyon, previously shared with TopMob that they were working quickly on Season 2 and aimed to release episodes during the summer. However, the show isn’t currently scheduled for release in 2026.
I’m really excited to hear that even though filming is almost done, Ransom Canyon Season 2 is still looking good for a release in early 2027! It’s great to get confirmation, and it sounds like everyone involved is feeling positive about it.
Forever

Okay, so I was totally invested in the show Forever, and it really bummed me out when Keisha and Justin, who were so cute together, split up after they graduated. But thankfully, the creators are giving them a second shot at happiness! Season 2 is going to follow them as they try to navigate life after high school, and hopefully, get back together. I’m really looking forward to seeing how it plays out.
We don’t know if production on the second season has started yet, as there haven’t been many updates since the show was renewed. Season 2 will be new territory for the series, as it moves beyond the story of the original 1975 Judy Blume novel that inspired the first season.
Bet

The Canadian teen series Bet, inspired by the manga Kakegurui and centered around competitive, high-stakes gambling, has been picked up for another season of 10 half-hour episodes. The renewal was announced last June.
Filming started in Toronto, Canada, a few months ago, leading many to believe the show might appear on Netflix as early as 2026, or more likely in early 2027 – a pattern Netflix has followed with other series in the past.
Squid Game: The Challenge

Netflix has likely completed casting the 456 players who will compete in Season 3 of Squid Game: The Challenge. They’ll be vying for the $4.56 million prize, inspired by the popular Korean drama series.
Unfortunately, Season 3 of The Challenge won’t be released on Netflix until 2027, meaning the show will likely continue to have new seasons every other year. Despite the main Squid Game competition ending, Netflix still plans to expand the Squid Game world with more seasons of the reality show and potentially new spin-off series.
Everybody’s Live With John Mulaney

In January 2025, Netflix committed to two seasons of John Mulaney’s live variety talk show, Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney, with the first season premiering in March. Mulaney previously mentioned they were working on future plans, which led some to wonder if those plans were still in motion.
Netflix has decided not to include new seasons of the UK show Supacell, the Australian series Heartbreak High, and the Canadian show Geek Girl in its plans for 2026, even though filming for these seasons has already been completed. However, Netflix could still change its schedule and add these popular continuations of shows that originally premiered in 2024.
