This year, Netflix plans to present an array of prominent documentary features and series, ranging from Eddie Murphy’s perspective, Errol Morris’ exploration of the Manson family murders, to the 20-year impact of Hurricane Katrina.
The documentary ‘Eddie’ is crafted by renowned director-producer Angus Wall, along with producers John Davis, John Fox, Charisse Hewitt, Terry Leonard, and Kent Kubena. This film offers a deep dive into the life of the comedian who made his debut in the early 1980s on ‘Saturday Night Live.’ As shared by Netflix, Eddie himself discusses his career that has kept three generations of fans entertained, encompassing various genres including comedy, action, drama, animation, musicals, and family films.
Documentary filmmaker Errol Morris (“The Fog of War”) is responsible for directing and producing “Chaos: The Manson Murders,” set to premiere on March 7th. Morris collaborates with Robert Fernandez and Steven Hathaway in the production process. In 1969, notorious criminal Charles Manson, who passed away in prison at the age of 83 in 2017, along with his followers, carried out a series of horrific murders across the Los Angeles region. Among their victims was actress Sharon Tate.
Titled “Katrina: Come Hell or High Water,” this three-part documentary series is slated for release in August to mark the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina’s devastation of New Orleans on August 28, 2005. As described by Netflix, the series allows the people of New Orleans to reflect on their past, celebrate their present, and look towards their future – a testament to what they and their city have endured and transformed into over the last two decades.
Spike Lee, who previously produced the 2006 HBO documentary “When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts,” serves as executive producer, while Sam Pollard, a veteran of documentaries, takes on the role of producer. Geeta Gandbhir and Samantha Knowles direct the first and second episodes, respectively, with Alisa Payne serving as showrunner. In the third episode, Spike Lee steps behind the camera to direct.

This three-part documentary series, produced under Liz Garbus and Dan Cogan’s Story Syndicate banner, is directed by Garbus herself. The arrest of Rex Heuermann in 2023 finally brought these cases to light, as he has been charged with the deaths of six women, and is suspected of committing even more murders. Liz Garbus, Dan Cogan, Anne Carey, Jon Bardin, and Mala Chapple serve as executive producers for this gripping series.
On April 21st, the film titled “Pangolin: Kulu’s Journey” will be released, narrating the tale of a man who discovers renewed meaning in life following his participation in rescuing a young pangolin after an anti-poaching operation in South Africa. The film is directed and produced by Pippa Ehrlich, with George Chignell, Jessica Grimshaw, Nick Shumaker also contributing as producers. Craig Foster, Swati Thiyagarajan, and David Levine serve as executive producers.
Titan: Unraveling the Mystery, a movie by Story Syndicate and Diamond Docs, delves into the events leading to the unfortunate demise of five individuals in 2023, when the submersible named Titan collapsed during an expedition aimed at locating the remnants of the Titanic in the North Atlantic Ocean. The film further sheds light on the life story and ambitions of OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, who perished in this accident, as he strived to emerge as the next groundbreaking tycoon. Directed and produced by Mark Monroe, Jon Bardin, and Lily Garrison, it has Dan Cogan, Liz Garbus, Kate Barry, Tommy Coriale, Mala Chapple, Amy Herdy, and Jude Prest serving as executive producers.
