Netflix’s 14-Part Action Crime Series Is An Instant Global Streaming Sensation

The new Netflix series, Furies, is a 14-episode action-crime show that has quickly become popular with viewers around the world.

The French action drama first appeared on Netflix in March 2024 with an eight-episode season. A second season, called Resistance, with six episodes, followed on March 18th, two years later.

As of today, March 20th, the TV show Furies is currently the eighth most popular show on Netflix worldwide, according to FlixPatrol. It’s following JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure at number one, as well as One Piece, Virgin River, Unicorn Academy: Secrets Revealed, That Night, Love & Death, and Beauty in Black. It’s performing better than Radioactive Emergency and Phantom Lawyer, which are ranked ninth and tenth respectively.

The Spanish thriller series Furies is currently a top 10 TV show in 47 countries around the world, including locations in Europe, the Caribbean, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, South America, and Oceania. Both seasons are available to stream on Netflix in the U.S.

Furies, created by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, Jean-Yves Arnaud, and Yoann Legave, tells the story of a woman determined to avenge her father’s death. Her quest leads her into the dangerous criminal world of Paris, where she encounters ‘Fury,’ a mysterious and ruthless figure who maintains order and holds the secrets of the city’s underworld.

The cast of Furies features Lina El Arabi, Marina Foïs, Mathieu Kassovitz, Steve Tientcheu, Quentin Faure, Jérémy Nadeau, Sandor Funtek, Anne Azoulay, Eye Haïdara, and Fatima Adoum.

The series Furies: Resistance currently has only one positive review on Rotten Tomatoes, preventing it from receiving an overall score. Joel Keller from Decider notes that, similar to the first season, viewers are likely tuning in for the action rather than a compelling plot. While the story in Furies: Resistance is even less developed than before, the action sequences remain enjoyable.

The first season of Furies has received only one positive review on Rotten Tomatoes, from Ty’Kira Smalls of Common Sense Media, who described it as “fast-paced, fun, and action-packed with plenty of bloodshed.” While season 1 has a 52% audience score based on less than 50 ratings, the series Resistance currently doesn’t have any audience ratings yet.

Many viewers have compared Furies to the action style of Luc Besson and the Fast & Furious movies. It often feels like a series with exciting action but a somewhat thin plot – a combination that can still be enjoyable. Its popularity on streaming platforms shows that audiences worldwide are drawn to its fast-paced and intense nature, making it a compelling binge-watch on Netflix.
