Netflix Sets 2026 Release for Duffer Brothers’ New Sci-Fi Series ‘The Boroughs’

The creators of Stranger Things, known as the Duffer Brothers, have a new series coming to Netflix later this year. While the ending of Stranger Things sparked debate among fans – with some even hoping for an extra episode to resolve things – the duo is already back with another sci-fi story. This new show centers around the residents of a retirement home who must work together to fight a supernatural danger from another world, and it sounds like a great show to watch all at once.

Netflix has confirmed that The Boroughs is set to premiere in 2026. The series stars Alfred Molina (Spider-Man: No Way Home) as Sam Geena Davis, (Thelma and Louise) as Renee, Alfre Woodard (Clemency) as Judy, Denis O’Hare (This Is Us) as Wally, Clarke Peters (The Wire) as Art and Bill Pullman (Independence Day) as Jack. The Boroughs consists of eight episodes, which will presumably all drop at once on the streamer. Read the official synopsis for the upcoming series below:

This show is set in a beautiful retirement community in the New Mexico desert. The residents, a surprising group of heroes, have to team up to prevent a strange danger from taking something they can’t get back: their time.

I’m really excited about The Boroughs because it’s created by the team behind The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance – Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews are showrunning, and they did such a fantastic job with that! Plus, the Duffer brothers, known for their work on Stranger Things, are executive producing, which is a great sign. The cast is shaping up to be amazing too – Jena Malone (Love Lies Bleeding), Carlos Miranda (Station 19), Seth Numrich (Under the Banner of Heaven), Alice Kremelberg (The Sinner), Rafael Casal (Loki), Dee Wallace (Cujo), Ed Begley Jr. (Young Sheldon), Jane Kaczmarek (Malcom in the Middle), Eric Edelstein (Twin Peaks: The Return), and Mousa Hussein Kraish (American Gods) are all onboard. It’s a seriously impressive group of actors!
