Netflix Scores Historic Grammy Nominations with ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ and “Golden”

The film is poised to potentially add to its already impressive Grammy award collection, thanks to its massive success. However, the project wasn’t originally theirs; Sony unexpectedly gave it to them in a controversial move. Now, the film is achieving significant recognition, already earning four Grammy nominations and breaking records.

Okay, I’m not even shocked, but “Golden” by KPop Demon Hunters is nominated for Song of the Year at the Grammys! It’s the song performed by Huntr/x in the movie, and the voices you hear are Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami. But it doesn’t stop there – it’s also up for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Best Song Written for Visual Media, and Best Remixed Recording thanks to David Guetta’s remix. Seriously, the whole KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack is getting recognition – it’s nominated for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media too! I’m so excited for them!

K-Pop wasn’t always taken seriously, but the surprising and continued success of KPop Demon Hunters – it’s currently back at number one on Netflix after almost five months – has created opportunities no one anticipated.

As a huge music fan, I was so thrilled to read what Ejae and Ami had to say after their Grammy nominations were announced to Variety. Ejae confessed she was completely stunned and still processing it all, and Ami described the feeling as unreal! But for Nuna, the most exciting part isn’t just the nomination itself, but what it means for K-Pop finally getting the recognition it deserves at the Grammys and opening doors for more artists in the future. It’s a really big moment!

Seeing three people of Korean descent is incredibly moving, especially when I consider the impact it might have on young viewers. The thought that it could inspire them and broaden their horizons gives me goosebumps.

Can ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Win a Grammy?

Netflix

The songs of KPop Demon Hunters are incredibly catchy, and their popularity is clear from the success of tracks like “Golden.” “Golden” reached number one on the U.S. charts and stayed there for eight weeks straight, from August to October. Overall, it has topped the charts a total of 14 times, though not consecutively, proving the group’s widespread appeal.

The popularity of “Golden” suggests it has a good chance of winning one of the awards it’s nominated for, but it faces strong competition for Song of the Year. Another South Korean artist, Rosé, is also in the running with a collaboration with Bruno Mars on “Apt.” The other nominees for Song of the Year are Lady Gaga with “Abracadabra,” Doechii’s “Jaylah,” Bad Bunny’s “DtMF,” Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “Luther,” Sabrina Carpenter’s “Manchild,” and Billie Eilish’s “Wildflower.”

The Grammy Awards aren’t until February, but the popular Netflix series KPop Demon Hunters is currently doing so well that it could still be a top show when nominations are announced – and potentially make Grammy history with a first-of-its-kind achievement.
