If you want to watch the USA Network series Queen of the South, you’ll need to start streaming it soon! The show is currently available, but it won’t be for much longer, so you’ll have to watch all the episodes quickly.
The popular series Queen of the South will no longer be available on Netflix after April 7, 2026 – exactly five years after its final season aired on USA Network. The show originally debuted in 2016 and ran for six seasons, totaling 62 episodes before concluding in 2021. Throughout its run on USA, Queen of the South proved popular with audiences, earning an 87% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Queen of the South Had a 5-Season Run on USA
Based on Arturo Pérez-Reverte’s Spanish novel, Queen of the South follows Teresa Mendoza, played by Alice Braga (I Am Legend), as she rises from poverty to become a powerful drug lord. The series begins with Teresa falling for a drug trafficker and escaping to the United States after his death. There, she establishes her own drug cartel, relying on her intelligence and determination to overcome both rival criminals and the authorities.
The show’s cast included Peter Gadiot (known from Once Upon a Time in Wonderland) as James, who works closely with Camila; Hemky Madera (Spider-Man: Homecoming) as Pote Galvez, a key supporter of Teresa; Molly Burnett (Law & Order: SVU) as Kelly Anne Van Awken, Teresa’s attorney; Nick Sagar (The Princess Switch) as DEA agent Alonzo Loya; and David Andrews as Cecil Lafayette, a judge who can be bought.
Teresa Mendoza Is a Lot Like Walter White
Similar to the acclaimed series Breaking Bad, which ended in 2013, Queen of the South follows the journey of a compelling criminal protagonist. Both shows delve into the complicated morality of their main characters, as Teresa Mendoza, like Walter White, evolves from an everyday person into a powerful and intimidating figure in the criminal world. Interestingly, both series also lasted five seasons and included a total of 62 episodes.
There was potential for Queen of the South to continue beyond its four seasons. However, viewership began to decline around Season 4, coinciding with USA Network’s decision to prioritize reality TV over scripted dramas. The challenges of filming during the 2020 pandemic ultimately led the network to cancel the show.
Stream Queen of the South on Netflix before it’s gone after Apr. 6.
