Neon Releases First Trailer for ‘Sirāt’

Neon is known for releasing bold and thought-provoking films, and their latest, Sirāt, looks to continue that tradition. While the film centers on a father trying to reconnect with his daughter, early reviews suggest it’s anything but typical. Sirāt will be released in New York and Los Angeles on February 6th.

Neon describes the movie:

A father and son travel to a remote rave in the mountains of southern Morocco, desperately searching for their missing daughter and sister, Mar. She disappeared months earlier at a similar party, and they’ve been tirelessly handing out her photo, hoping for a lead. With hope dwindling, they join a group heading to one final desert rave. As they journey further into the harsh landscape, they are forced to face their own personal struggles and boundaries.

Also starring in Sirāt are Bruno Núñez, Stefania Gadda, and Jade Oukid.

‘Sirāt’ Is Melting Minds

Though Sirāt isn’t widely released in the US yet, it gained significant recognition last year at the Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Jury Prize. It also received Golden Globe nominations for Best Foreign Language Film and Best Original Score. Critics have praised the film – it currently holds a 93% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes – and several major publications, including The New Yorker, The Hollywood Reporter, IndieWire, Vulture, The Los Angeles Times, and Entertainment Weekly, included it in their top ten films of the year.

Variety’s Jessica Kiang described of the movie:

Laxe maintains incredible control over the film’s increasingly desperate and chaotic atmosphere, building to a climax that is both absurd and surprisingly suspenseful. This confident direction is remarkable, especially considering the film’s subtle and ambiguous nature. It grips you, holding you captive as you’re forced to witness events, perhaps even when you don’t want to. As one character asks, ‘Is this what the end of the world feels like?’ and the answer is a resounding yes. While the film depicts a bleak, apocalyptic moment of destruction and decay, Sirāt still manages to feel fresh and original.
