Fans of The Last of Us believe Neil Druckmann, the head of Naughty Dog, recently suggested that a third game is in development.
Since the release of the controversial The Last of Us Part 2 in 2020, fans have eagerly awaited a third game to continue Ellie’s story. However, the game’s creator, Neil Druckmann, has been unsure about whether to make one.
In the 2024 documentary, Grounded II, he mentioned the team was having trouble coming up with a good idea for a continuation, but hinted there might be “one more chapter” to tell. However, by 2025, he seemed less sure, telling Variety that fans shouldn’t expect another installment of The Last of Us, and that this could be the end of the story.

A recent Instagram post has sparked excitement among fans about the possibility of a third The Last of Us game. Neil Druckmann, one of the creators, shared some early sketches he made back in 2003 – ten years before the original game even came out on PlayStation 3.
He shared that while cleaning his garage, he found his initial sketches from 2003 for a video game idea. The game would have featured a man and his adopted daughter traveling across a damaged version of the United States.

Predictably, the mention of a “road ahead” has excited fans, leading many to think a new game is likely coming to complete the series.
One person commented that the final line strongly suggests a third installment is coming, and another agreed, stating it seems to confirm the third game, addressing the creator, Neil.
“Bro is cooking something. The Last of Us Part 3 is happening,” wrote another fan on X.
This isn’t a definite announcement that The Last of Us Part 3 is being made. He might have been talking about the upcoming third season of the HBO show, which is scheduled for 2027, or simply sharing his thoughts on his career as a creator.
Okay, so even if this does mean a third game is coming, we’re probably going to be waiting a long time. Naughty Dog is super busy with their new project, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and it looks like that won’t be out until 2027 at the very soonest. It’s a bit of a wait, but I’m sure it’ll be worth it!
