Get ready to watch the year’s biggest movie at home! Ne Zha 2, the 2025 blockbuster that earned over $2 billion worldwide, will be available to stream on HBO Max just in time for the holidays. It was not only the highest-grossing film of 2025, but also landed among the top five highest-grossing movies of all time globally.
Starting December 1st, HBO Max subscribers can enjoy the first Ne Zha movie, and the English-dubbed version of Ne Zha 2 will be available beginning December 24th. Both films will be available to stream throughout the holidays.
After releasing in China on January 29, the original Chinese version of the movie had a limited release in U.S. theaters in February. A24 later picked up distribution for an English dub version of the film, which was released in U.S. theaters on August 22. The English dub’s cast is led by Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh, Crystal Lee, Vincent Rodriguez III, and Aleks Le. Check out the official logline for the film below:
Okay, so picture this: Ne Zha is this incredibly powerful kid, born to regular humans, and honestly, the gods are terrified of him because he’s so unpredictable. It’s a really cool setup! But now, this ancient evil shows up threatening everyone, and Ne Zha has to step up and become the hero we all need. It’s basically a coming-of-age story with a ton of action and amazing visuals, and I’m totally hooked!
While Ne Zha 2 only earned $23 million in U.S. theaters, it now has a chance to reach more American viewers. The film is now available on HBO Max, where subscribers can watch both the sequel and the first Ne Zha movie from 2019.
As a huge cinema fan, I was amazed to see how well Ne Zha 2 did! It actually broke into the top 5 highest-grossing movies of all time worldwide, taking the place of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It didn’t stop there, though – it also earned more than films like Avengers: Infinity War, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Inside Out 2, and Jurassic World. Now, only four movies have ever made more money globally: Avatar, Avengers: Endgame, Avatar: The Way of Water, and Titanic. That’s some incredible company!
With its recent success, Ne Zha 2 has become the highest-grossing animated film ever, surpassing Inside Out 2. This happened quickly after Inside Out 2 itself earned almost $1.7 billion worldwide and took the top spot.
Over the next two years, several highly anticipated animated sequels – including Zootopia 2, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Toy Story 5, Shrek 5, Spider-Man: Beyond the Verse, and Frozen 3 – are scheduled for release and are projected to be very successful. However, these films face a challenge: they’ll need to perform exceptionally well to match or exceed the box office results of Ne Zha 2.
