Be warned, this contains spoilers for NCIS season 23, episode 3, “The Sound and the Fury.” The episode finally addresses what’s been happening with Jessica Knight and Jimmy Palmer. The Major Crimes Response Team (MCRT) has faced a lot of challenges recently. While the season 23 premiere focused on Alden Parker resolving a personal issue with Carla Marino, this week’s episode returns to a typical case-of-the-week format – though the new mystery is far from ordinary.
The third episode of NCIS season 23 centers around Halloween and focuses on Knight and Nick Torres. Their established partnership is shaken up by the reappearance of Dale Sawyer, and being separated forces them to confront their feelings for each other, ultimately affecting Palmer’s relationship.
NCIS Season 23, Episode 3 Confirms The Effective End Of Palmer & Knight’s Romance
Though it was handled delicately, the third episode of NCIS season 23 pretty much signals the end of the relationship between Knight and Palmer. Their romance had been relatively calm until a messy breakup in the season 22 finale, triggered by a job offer from Leon Vance that would move Knight to Camp Pendleton. Many viewers found the reason for the split frustratingly minor. However, CBS hasn’t ruled out the possibility of them getting back together.
It seems unlikely that Palmer and Knight will get back together after Knight revealed her feelings for Torres. While Nick doesn’t seem to share those feelings, that doesn’t really matter now. If Knight has truly moved on, it would be hard for her and Palmer to rekindle their relationship, especially since their previous breakup wasn’t based on any serious issues.
NCIS has explored relationships between agents before. Knight and Palmer were unique because they approached the idea of dating with a practical and mature mindset. Now, the show appears to be creating a similar uncertain romantic connection, reminiscent of the one between Anthony DiNozzo Jr. and Ziva David.
Palmer & Knight’s Romance Has Been Struggling For A While Now, But Can They Reconcile?
Although Knight and Palmer have shown occasional signs they still have feelings for each other since their breakup, it hasn’t been enough to suggest a romantic reconciliation on NCIS. It’s also challenging to create opportunities for them to connect, as they each focus on different parts of MCRT’s work. Plus, Knight is currently spending most of her time with Torres, making a reunion even more difficult.
It doesn’t look like Knight and Palmer will be getting back together anytime soon, based on the show’s current direction. While the writers could always change their minds, a reconciliation seems unlikely in the upcoming 23rd season of NCIS.
