We’re learning more about one of the villains who will be helping Doctor Doom in the upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday.
Last month, a source reported that Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom will lead a team of five, including familiar faces from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The team will feature Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), Clea (Charlize Theron), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), a powerful version of Hulk called Master Hulk, and a shapeshifter who will appear as Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell).
What are the latest details about Avengers: Doomsday’s mystery villain?
MAJESTIC_ucm has shared more information about the shapeshifter’s plan in Doomsday. According to the source, the shapeshifter will pretend to be Peggy Carter to trick Steve Rogers. The goal is to capture Steve and Peggy’s son for Doctor Doom.
I first heard back in December 2024 that Atwell was going to be in Avengers: Doomsday. It was a little weird, though, because when Marvel did that big livestream in March 2025 to kick off filming, she wasn’t mentioned! It made me wonder what was going on, but I was still excited to see what they had planned.
Chris Evans, previously linked to the project in December 2024, wasn’t featured in the livestream event. Marvel later confirmed his return as Steve Rogers with the release of the first movie trailer in December 2025.
According to information from MAJESTIC_ucm, Atwell will play two roles: the genuine Peggy Carter – who is living with Steve Rogers and their son on Earth-828 – and a shapeshifter who disguises themself as her. The shapeshifter’s actual identity hasn’t been revealed yet.
While the specific storyline is still a secret, the movie Doomsday will finally unite the Avengers, the New Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men in one film. Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely penned the script, and the Russo Brothers are directing.
The next Avengers movie, currently titled Doomsday, is planned for release on December 18, 2026, and will be the latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 6.
