Music YouTuber accidentally makes hit metal song despite trying to create ‘AI slop’

Steve Terreberry, a musician and YouTuber, unintentionally created a popular power metal ballad with a Japanese sound using artificial intelligence. He was actually aiming to make something deliberately messy and low-quality!

Artificial intelligence is rapidly improving, and that includes the software used to create music. These programs are becoming increasingly sophisticated.

Talk about AI’s role in music is increasing, especially as Spotify starts removing AI-created songs it considers low-quality. At the same time, AI musicians are landing lucrative record deals and gaining support from well-known producers like Timbaland.

I was really curious about all the hype around AI music generators, so guitarist and YouTuber Steve Terreberry decided to try one out and actually make a metal song. I was excited to see what would happen!

He first expected the AI programs to produce something low-quality, but he unexpectedly created a funny and surprisingly addictive song that’s quickly becoming popular online.

YouTuber’s accidental AI-generated metal hit stuns social media

Around nine minutes into his video, Terreberry tested out ‘Mureka,’ a website that claims to create original and tailored songs, lyrics, and music for any purpose.

I was really going for a Yoko Ono vibe with this song, but honestly, it just didn’t quite land that way. It ended up sounding way more like Nightwish than anything else, which was a bit of a surprise – and not exactly what I was aiming for!

He decided to create a power metal song instead, and just typed random characters for the lyrics. The AI then tried to improve the song by adding rhyming phrases, which surprisingly gave it a Japanese feel.

We’re soaring through the sky, and our hopes will live on forever. We’ll never truly say goodbye.

The YouTuber jokingly predicted the music would sound like a fast-paced Japanese metal song, and it turned out he was surprisingly accurate.

The song turned out to be surprisingly catchy, even surprising the creator and his audience. Since being uploaded two weeks ago, “Isugaku Never Say Goodbye” has become incredibly popular on platforms like X, TikTok, and YouTube, where the complete song is now available.

Terreberry confessed he’d likely add the song to his Spotify playlist, noting it had a sound reminiscent of an anime theme song.

People generally agreed and many playfully commented that the AI did a surprisingly good job, calling its performance exceptionally strong despite being created from basic digital code.

A short film created by artificial intelligence recently gained a lot of attention after winning the inaugural AI film festival. The judging panel included well-known personalities such as musician Grimes and social media star Logan Paul.
