Warner Bros. Games has declared that MultiVersus, the multiplayer fighting game showcasing characters like Bugs Bunny, Superman, Lebron James, and The Powerpuff Girls, is set to close down. Season 5, which marks the end of the game, begins on February 4th, 2025, and continues until May 30th, 2025.
MultiVersus, the Warner Bros. platform fighter, will shutdown servers in May
As a passionate gamer of MultiVersus, I must admit it’s disheartening to learn that online features will be shut down after May 30th, 2025. However, there’s a glimmer of hope! The developers, Player First Games, have shared their plans to introduce an offline mode.
To enjoy this offline experience, make sure you’ve got the latest version of the game installed or downloaded, and remember to log in during the upcoming new season starting on February 4th. Your local save file will be tied to whichever platform you use to play MultiVersus.
Season 5 of the game will introduce two fresh characters: DC’s Aquaman and the beloved character from Looney Tunes, Lola Bunny. These newcomers can be acquired by playing the game during Season 5. Notably, Aquaman will be associated with the battle pass, whereas Lola Bunny will be a reward for logging in daily.
From today, Friday, January 31st, the game “MultiVersus” will cease all real money transactions. This means players won’t be able to buy in-game currencies anymore. However, any existing currencies can still be used for in-game content until Season 5 ends in May. Important to note, after Season 5 is over, the free-to-play game will no longer be available for download from any online storefronts.
To conclude, the team behind MultiVersus expressed their gratitude to every player who backed their game, saying, “We are eternally thankful for the exceptional backing of the MultiVersus community during this adventure.” The team did not disclose why this is the final season, leaving fans to ponder the reasons. MultiVersus first made a splash in 2022 with its early access release, but it failed to maintain the same level of enthusiasm following nearly a year-long hiatus prior to the official launch in May 2024.
Apart from Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, another live-service game published by Warner Bros. Games has ceased development this year. Specifically, Episode 8: Balance marked the end of Suicide Squad’s development earlier in October. Unfortunately, Rocksteady Studios, the developers behind Suicide Squad, recently underwent layoffs as well. At present, we are left to speculate about the potential future of Player First Games following this announcement.
