With the success of the Game of Thrones universe, author George R.R. Martin has confirmed that several follow-up shows are being developed. Following the end of the original series in 2019, HBO has already created two prequel series: House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
George R.R. Martin shared at the 2025 Iceland Noir Festival, according to Los Siete Reinos, that alongside the previously announced prequel spin-offs, he’s also working on one or two sequel series. He didn’t offer any details about who the potential Game of Thrones sequels might focus on.
Besides ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ and ‘House of the Dragon’, we’re also creating other ‘Game of Thrones’ spin-off series. Most of these take place before the events of the original show, and we currently have around five or six different projects in development. I’m collaborating with other writers and creatives on these, and we are also exploring a couple of potential sequels.
