MrBeast responds to $100 million College Football spending pitch as talks ongoing

Popular YouTuber Jimmy Donaldson, known as MrBeast, addressed the idea of investing $100 million into a college football team to help them win.

College football has seen a huge influx of money recently. Players can now earn money through endorsements – using their name, image, and likeness – and this has led to the return of the popular NCAA Football video game. Plus, wealthy alumni are investing more and more money into their favorite schools.

College football is increasingly competitive financially, though not quite at the NFL’s scale. We’re seeing a surge in players receiving payments to switch schools, and coaching salaries are at an all-time high.

It’s not surprising people think MrBeast might get involved. Because he’s from Greenville, North Carolina, many fans have suggested he could invest in East Carolina University and help revitalize their football program.

MrBeast responds to idea of $100m backing for ECU football

Back in December, podcasters TheRealOShow speculated that MrBeast could invest $100 million into a program, potentially fast-tracking them to a national championship.

Someone on Instagram suggested it would be amazing to see him invest $100 million into East Carolina University’s athletic program, similar to a stunt from one of his videos, and attempt to win a national championship. They called it a potentially brilliant idea for a YouTube video.

So, on February 3rd, the YouTuber finally replied, and it actually gave East Carolina fans a little hope! He basically asked, “Should I go through with this?” and followed it up with a ton of crying emojis – it was a whole mood.

As noted by the East Carolina University fan site HoistTheColours, MrBeast has close ties to the school. In November 2022, he and ECU announced they were collaborating on an online course focused on the creator economy.

So, I heard that MrBeast’s team has been talking with East Carolina University about potentially funding something. Apparently, ECU pitched them a documentary idea – like, full access to everything! It sounds like they’re hoping MrBeast will bankroll it.

Sources indicate that another meeting between representatives from MrBeast and East Carolina University is likely to occur, with discussions reportedly taking place for several weeks, according to HoistTheColours.

This would certainly be a noteworthy decision, and the largest investment of its kind from YouTube into college football.

Donaldson also has strong ties to the football world – he once led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers onto the field before a game, and now he’s appearing in a Super Bowl commercial.
