MrBeast reacted to a smaller YouTuber‘s criticism, responding to claims that his content has become repetitive and lacks originality. The YouTuber had called MrBeast ‘boring’ in a video, suggesting he’s simply re-using old concepts and isn’t being genuine anymore.

Jimmy Donaldson, known as MrBeast, became famous through his incredibly elaborate videos on YouTube. He’s gone from creating content as a small online creator to hosting his own game show on Amazon Prime Video.

Honestly, I’ve been seeing some chatter that MrBeast’s challenges are starting to feel a little…samey. I saw this smaller YouTuber, Defen 1 – he’s got around 1,400 subscribers – and he actually made a really good point. He thinks MrBeast has lost a bit of his spark, even though he’s still super popular.

In early March, Defen released a 51-minute video criticizing recent MrBeast content. He argued that after MrBeast’s successful recreation of the Netflix show Squid Game in 2021, his videos became increasingly focused on similar, large-scale competitions.

Okay, so I was reading this take on MrBeast, and apparently a lot of people think he’s kinda lost what makes him MrBeast since that Squid Game video blew up. This guy, Defen, said it feels like he’s stuck copying the look of Squid Game – like he has to have contestants wearing those numbered tracksuits now. It’s like he’s letting Squid Game define his content instead of coming up with his own stuff, which is a bummer because his older videos felt way more original.

Jimmy has also started acting like a game host, giving commands to guards who always obey him. These guards are visually similar to the ones seen in Squid Game, but appear to be a lower-budget imitation, like something you’d find on Temu.

Defen also criticized MrBeast, suggesting he appears to have toned down his personality after a public disagreement with former team member Ava Kris Tyson. Defen further argued that the sheer size of MrBeast’s projects may have made audiences less impressed over time.

Surprisingly, MrBeast agreed with him.

Honestly, I totally get where this guy’s coming from. He left a comment saying he’s been feeling the same way I have about the need for fresh ideas in the boys’ content space. He even said he’s been trying to improve things himself this year and saw my Twitter, hoping I could maybe give him a little inspiration to shake things up and get more original!

MrBeast saw the post and replied, saying he highly values feedback from fans who genuinely want to help, calling it incredibly valuable and something he actively seeks out.

MrBeast is known for sharing how he creates his videos and managing his finances. In a 2025 interview, he revealed he’s currently borrowing money from his mother, even for his wedding, because he invests all his earnings into making his videos.
