I’m still blown away! MrBeast actually helped put a heat-shield tile onto a real SpaceX Starship rocket! It’s incredible to think something he worked on is going to fly into space. It just shows you what he can do – going from YouTube challenges to contributing to actual rocket science!
This clip comes from MrBeast’s recent YouTube video, “$1 vs $1,000,000,000 Futuristic Tech!” In the video, he got an exclusive look inside a SpaceX factory to see how they’re building their new spacecraft on a large scale.
While visiting SpaceX, MrBeast got a tour of the Starship factory and talked to the engineers. He learned about the company’s plan to build rockets quickly, using a system similar to a car assembly line, to enable frequent trips to the Moon and Mars.
The tour featured a detailed view of the heat-shield tiles that safeguard Starship when it returns to Earth through the atmosphere. Engineers explained that approximately 18,000 of these lightweight ceramic tiles are used on each vehicle.
MrBeast installs heat-shield tile to SpaceX rocket
During a live event, Karl showed how strong SpaceX’s heat-shield tiles are by using a blowtorch on one placed on MrBeast’s hand. Impressed, SpaceX then let MrBeast—not a trained technician—actually attach a tile to a Starship fin, something usually done by specialists.
So, I was watching the SpaceX team’s reaction to MrBeast putting that heat shield tile on the rocket, and apparently, that tile is legit space-worthy hardware! They said it’s supposed to stay on the rocket during flight, and could actually go to space if the launch happens. The really crazy part? They told him straight up there wouldn’t be any do-overs. If he messed up the installation, the tile would have to be completely destroyed – no fixing it!
Once the tile was securely fastened, MrBeast signed it and playfully suggested that if the rocket didn’t launch correctly, everything viewers were seeing was created using artificial intelligence.
The visit really showcased how big SpaceX’s goals are. Representatives explained that the Starship is designed to be completely reusable and can carry as many as 100 people on each flight. Ultimately, SpaceX hopes to launch thousands of these rockets to help make humans a species that lives on multiple planets.
