Jimmy Donaldson, known as MrBeast, thinks creators need to be active on many platforms, but he believes YouTube is still the best place to build a strong, loyal audience.
Content creators often discuss the best place to build an online community. Some believe YouTube is no longer a good option, arguing that established, popular creators already have too much influence there.
Many creators are now prioritizing platforms like TikTok and Instagram, sharing easily digestible, short videos. This has led to the rise of a new generation of online celebrities.
MrBeast recommends that creators focus on building their presence on YouTube, mainly because the platform fosters such strong and loyal communities.
MrBeast believes creators should be on all platforms
To reach the widest audience, it’s best to be present on multiple platforms, as people are spread across them. However, if your goal is to build a strong community and genuine connection with your audience, YouTube is the most effective platform, he explained at the 2025 Dealbook Summit.
Okay, so I was thinking about TikTok the other day. Seriously, I can easily lose an hour just scrolling, and it’s crazy – I’ll probably watch like 200 videos! But if you asked me what I actually saw, I’d struggle to remember most of it. It just kinda disappears, you know?
Online personalities with extreme opinions might have a large following, but their real-world influence doesn’t always match. It’s easy to passively watch a short TikTok, but committing to a longer, more in-depth YouTube video shows a different level of engagement, and that impacts things like event attendance. Basically, having followers doesn’t guarantee actual support.

Donaldson also pointed out that YouTube remains the leading platform for creators hoping to turn their popularity into a sustainable business.
He also pointed out that some people prefer and only use short-form video platforms, meaning creators can’t afford to ignore them. He explained that if you don’t create content for those platforms, you’re invisible to that audience, so it’s crucial to be present on all of them.
