In a new twist, the TV series Cobra Kai has been exploring the possibly illicit history of Mr. Miyagi, and as the final episodes have revealed, there’s truth behind the whispers about a past burglary and violent altercation.

In the Karate Kid trilogy, Mr. Miyagi served as a cherished friend and guide to Daniel LaRusso, instructing him in martial arts and imparting valuable life wisdom. Regrettably, the character departed from this world between the movies, yet Daniel honored his mentor by carrying on his teachings through a dojo he named Miyagi-Do.

However, in due course, he stumbled upon a hidden chest, which appeared to be Mr. Miyagi’s personal property. Inside were hints that suggested his old mentor had once participated in the Saika Taikai tournament, and possibly even taken a life. This fact was substantiated during the second part of Season 6 on Cobra Kai.

However, it had been hinted that Miyagi might have been connected with a violent robbery that put a person in the hospital. But as Cobra Kai unveiled the facts (warning: spoilers follow), the truth emerged.

Who did Mr. Miyagi beat and rob in Cobra Kai Season 6?

In the last episode of Cobra Kai titled ‘Ex-Degenerate’, it’s revealed that Mr. Miyagi committed an act of violence and theft against the prison guard who had his late wife’s necklace.

The secret unveiling takes place over a family meal at the LaRusso residence. In this instance, Lucille, Daniel’s mother, presents Sam with his graduation present – a stunning pearl necklace. She then shares the item’s intriguing history.

Daniel-san: “Mr. Miyagi inherited this item from his mother… when he was forced to leave Okinawa, his father passed it on to him for potential sale in case of financial need. However, Mr. Miyagi chose not to sell it because it held too much emotional significance.

As I exchanged my cherished gaming console with my spouse upon tying the knot, little did I know that fate would take such a cruel twist. During those dark days of war, while confined within the cold walls of Manzanar, the internment camp, tragedy struck, and my beloved wife took her final breath. In the chaos that ensued, a ruthless guard seized what was once mine. The pain of losing not only my partner but also my precious possession still lingers, a constant reminder of those terrible times.

When Miguel queries about Miyagi’s subsequent actions, Daniel recalls the news article detailing the incident, and responds: “He carried out whatever was necessary – he located the guard and retrieved it.

Lucille went on to say: “The guard assaulted Mr. Miyagi, leaving him no choice but to defend himself harshly. In his final moments, he requested that I pass the item onto Samantha at an appropriate time.

Thus, we’ve uncovered the complete story behind Mr. Miyagi’s dramatic past – he was involved in a deadly match at the Seikei Taikai tournament that led to the death of another participant, and later, he confronted and subdued the guard who had stolen his wife’s necklace. Now, that precious heirloom is in the possession of Daniel’s daughter, Sam.
