‘Mother Schmuckers’ Team’s ‘Heads or Fails’ Lands at Dark Star for North America (EXCLUSIVE)

Dark Star Pictures secures the rights for “Heads or Fails” in North America, which is the second movie directed by the Belgian team Harpo and Lenny Guit. This move signifies an ongoing collaboration between the independent distributor and the Guit brothers, whose film “Mother Schmuckers,” a hit at Sundance 2021 screenings, has gained significant attention in the midnight circuit.

The deal was officially sealed between Michael Repsch, the president of Dark Star Pictures, and Charles Bin, one of the co-founders of Best Friend Forever.

Having just made its debut at last year’s Fantastic Fest and garnering rave reviews, I find myself captivated by the film “Heads or Fails.” This tale revolves around Armande Pigeon, Brussels’ undisputed queen of bad luck. With a knack for taking bets that she can’t seem to resist, she always seems to be on the losing end – until an unforgettable night when she partners up with Ronnie, leading to an unexpected winning streak that challenges their decision-making skills.

This comedy boasts a talented lineup, headlined by Maria Cavalier-Bazan, with Axel Perin and Maxi Delmelle from “Mother Schmuckers” also joining the cast. Michael Zindel (“A Good Jewish Boy”) and Claire Bodson (“Tori and Lokita,” “Young Ahmed”) are among the other key players. Notable guest stars include Melvil Poupaud, a veteran of French cinema (“Jeanne du Barry,” “One Fine Morning”), and Catherine Ringer, lead singer of Les Rita Mitsuko.

The comedy has Maria Cavalier-Bazan as the main character, with Axel Perin and Maxi Delmelle from the show “Mother Schmuckers” also playing roles. The cast is further bolstered by Michael Zindel (“A Good Jewish Boy”) and Claire Bodson (“Tori and Lokita,” “Young Ahmed”). Melvil Poupaud, a well-known figure in French cinema (“Jeanne du Barry,” “One Fine Morning”), and Catherine Ringer, the lead singer of Les Rita Mitsuko, make special appearances.

The movie is a collaborative effort among David Borgeaud from Roue Libre Production, Gaétane Rieusset from Fair Play Production, and the directing team under their Clubb Guitos banner. UFO Distribution will launch the film in France on March 26.

The phrase ‘Heads or Tails’ originates from Best Friend Forever, a company whose upcoming Berlin Film Festival lineup includes Kateryna Gornostai’s competition documentary ‘Timestamp’ and Jun Li’s Panorama pick ‘Queerpanorama.’ This Paris-based sales agency, a sibling company to Indie Sales established at Cannes 2019, is led by Martin Gondre (former marketing head of Indie Sales), Charles Bin (entertainment lawyer), and Nicolas Eschbach (co-founder of Indie Sales).
