Okay, so everyone’s been talking about how steamy Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights is going to be, with all the buzz around the chemistry between Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi. Honestly, movie marketing can be a bit of a smoke screen, right? But I’m hearing this one actually delivers. Robbie apparently showed a final cut to some friends, and the reaction was… strong. Seems like the film lives up to the hype, and it is as passionate as everyone’s expecting.
With the release of Wuthering Heights still about two weeks away, Robbie – who stars in and helped produce the film – shared a funny story on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. Her friends decided to throw her a bachelorette party for her character, Catherine, and she initially thought it was a joke, but they were completely serious about it.
Margot Robbie described the party’s dress code as a playful mix of Victorian and provocative styles – think white corsets and lace. The atmosphere was lively, with plenty of alcohol flowing, and everyone else seemed to be embracing a ‘Mob Wives’ aesthetic with black lace and corsets. While she didn’t share specifics, Robbie hinted she had a fantastic time, saying,
Girl code prevents me from sharing all the details, but showing a movie at the beginning of the bachelorette party was a total disaster! I thought it would be a fun way to kick things off, but it turned into the wildest – and most unexpectedly fun – Wednesday night of my life. It was just an incredibly crazy night.
The movie screening wasn’t typical – people didn’t just quietly watch the film. Instead, the atmosphere, combined with the themes of Wuthering Heights, led to a surprisingly chaotic experience, as the Barbie star described it.
During the screening, the audience – about twenty women – became incredibly excited and vocal. They had already had a few drinks, and when the movie started, they were practically frantic. They were screaming and talking throughout the entire film, reacting to everything that happened on screen. It wasn’t so much watching the movie as it was a shared, loud experience with constant commentary, outbursts, and even crying.
This wasn’t a typical movie critic preview, but it’s clear the film made an impression. It feels like something people would enjoy watching with friends, maybe even recreating the experience themselves.
I heard the party for Margot Robbie’s new movie was a blast! And honestly, I was a little worried Jacob Elordi might get overlooked, but it sounds like everyone appreciated his work too.
When Jacob appeared on screen, it was a truly shocking moment. I was honestly afraid the judges would be overwhelmed by his presence.
Emerald Fennell, known for directing Promising Young Woman and Saltburn, now brings us her take on Wuthering Heights, featuring Alison Oliver, Hong Chau, Martin Clunes, and Shazad Latif. After positive reactions from early preview screenings last summer, the film will be released in theaters on February 13th, just in time for Valentine’s Day.
