Since the inception of the Mortal Kombat franchise back in the early ’90s, Cage has been a prominent character in its video games. However, he was missing from the 2021 Mortal Kombat film. Towards the end of that movie, there were hints about his potential appearance, and WWE star The Miz made a strong case for the role. Yet, it was given to Karl Urban, who is known for his roles in ‘The Boys’ and ‘Dredd’.
In addition to the main character, Mortal Kombat 2 features a range of other characters such as Adeline Rudolph playing Kitana, Tati Gabrielle portraying Jade, Martyn Ford taking on Shao Kahn, Desmond Chiam as King Jerrod, Ana Thu Nguyen in the role of Queen Sindel, and Damon Herriman as Quan Chi. These actors will be joined by Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, and numerous other performers reprising their roles from the original movie, all embodying classic Mortal Kombat characters.
In the series, Cage is widely beloved due to his talent for both verbally and physically defeating his adversaries. Since his debut, he has been depicted as an authentic action hero with combat abilities, often recruited to safeguard EarthRealm from Outworld’s threats. Developer NetherRealm has consistently given him significant roles starting from Mortal Kombat 9, and even the fresh start in Mortal Kombat 1 didn’t lessen his appeal.
Under the direction of Simon McQuiod once more, specifics about Mortal Kombat 2’s storyline are still under wraps, but it has been confirmed for release in theaters on October 24th. The original film garnered praise from audiences due to its faithful adaptation of the video game origin, gripping combat sequences, and impressive ensemble cast, with Josh Lawson’s portrayal of Kano particularly standing out.
Simultaneously, Mortal Kombat 1 is still delighting players with fresh guest characters, and it recently introduced a secret battle that pays tribute to Pink Floyd, in a sense.
