Morgan Freeman is objecting to the increasing use of AI in Hollywood and is suing companies for illegally replicating his voice.
In a recent interview with The Guardian, the Academy Award-winning actor expressed his frustration with AI companies using his voice without permission. He stated he doesn’t want his voice faked or imitated, and that using it without his consent is essentially stealing from him, as he typically gets paid for such work.
Freeman stated his legal team is actively identifying people and businesses illegally using his image. He mentioned his lawyers have been working hard and have already discovered several instances of this misuse.

Morgan Freeman slams AI “actor” Tilly Norwood
Tim Robbins, known for his role in The Shawshank Redemption, has a very different view on artificial voice technology than many other actors. Just recently, his Batman Begins co-star, Sir Michael Caine, teamed up with ElevenLabs, an AI audio company, to legally recreate his voice for use in advertising and other projects. ElevenLabs’ new platform allows companies and creators to license celebrity voices with the celebrities’ permission.
Matthew McConaughey is embracing AI by investing in ElevenLabs and using an AI version of his own voice to create a Spanish version of his newsletter, Lyrics of Livin’. The trend is catching on with major players like Fortnite, which recently featured Darth Vader with a voice authorized by the estate of James Earl Jones.
However, Freeman doesn’t believe AI voices will ever be a substitute for genuine performers. He quickly rejected the idea of AI actors – like Tilly Norwood, the first fully synthetic one revealed in September – being able to replace human talent.

He explained that people don’t connect with her because she doesn’t feel authentic. This poses a problem for film and TV, as audiences need to believe in the performances. The actors’ union exists to protect human actors, so this situation creates a direct conflict.
It’s obvious that the actor from Now You See Me: Now You Don’t wants to eliminate his AI opponents.
