Moon Studios Creative Director Is Teasing A Possible Third Ori Game

Approaching five years since the debut of Ori and the Will of the Wisps, the sequel to Ori and the Blind Forest by developer Moon Studios, it has primarily received favorable reviews upon its release. Following the release of Ori and the Will of the Wisps, the studio has shifted focus towards developing No Rest for the Wicked, which launched on PC via Early Access in April 2024, with a console launch announcement forthcoming.

Lately, certain gamers have pointed out that creative director Thomas Mahler has shared messages on the No Rest for the Wicked Discord server, which has sparked curiosity among many. Although it’s common for Mahler to communicate through this platform, the specific contents of some messages lead some players to speculate he might be hinting at their upcoming project.

Moon Studios has sparked curiosity and perhaps enthusiasm among fans and players of the Ori games, as the game director’s recent Discord messages have piqued interest. This news spread through an Ori subreddit where one Reddit user shared an image containing all of Mahler’s posts hinting at a third Ori game. It appears that he may be suggesting, in a teasing manner, that work on it “could be” underway.

Presently, Mahler has confirmed that he and his team are fully committed to the project titled “No Rest for the Wicked.” He emphasized its significance, given their recent discussions with Microsoft. This was in response to a query about them developing another 3D platformer game. To this, Mahler expressed uncertainty about other projects but mentioned they have many possibilities. However, perfecting “No Rest for the Wicked” is more pressing for him at the moment.

As much as I’d love to dive back into the magical world of Ori, it seems like my adventure might have to wait a bit longer. Moon Studios are currently engrossed in creating “No Rest for the Wicked”, and if they manage to sell 10 million copies of this game, Ori 3 could be unveiled as its title. But let’s be honest, Mahler wants the final product to shine brightly when it hits consoles, so it might not happen immediately. Still, those tiny Ori hints keep a glimmer of hope flickering in my heart for a possible third game down the line.
