Monument Valley 3 Is Out Today On Netflix With A Live-Service Twist

As a long-time fan of the captivating and enchanting world of Monument Valley, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the release of Monument Valley 3, exclusively on Netflix Games! Having grown up playing the previous games on my mobile devices, it’s heartening to see Ustwo continue to innovate and push the boundaries of storytelling within this magical universe.

Today marks the release of Monument Valley 3, the latest installment in the acclaimed indie puzzle game series, which is now available exclusively on Netflix’s gaming platform.

In an interview, game developer Ustwo discussed their past experiences working on mobile platforms and how incorporating live-service aspects into Monument Valley 3 was a logical progression. To keep players engaged, Ustwo intends to roll out fresh content for Monument Valley 3 with each passing real-world season, complete with new activities and brainteasers frequently. Previously, games in this series featured DLC (downloadable content).

According to director Jennifer Estaris, Monument Valley has typically offered downloadable content. She explained that this method is less rhythmic and predictable when new content arrives. Her goal was to find a way to make this a regular occurrence for players, allowing them to anticipate new additions with excitement. At the same time, she wanted to ensure that this continued content was tied to the game’s themes of caring for the world, rather than being a one-time experience.

Previously, games from Ustwo, such as Assemble with Care and Desta: The Memories Between, have been available on Netflix and Apple Arcade. This indicates that the developer has ample experience creating games for mobile platforms. Notably, Monument Valley, a series initially launched on mobile devices, is a testament to their expertise in this area.

Lead Producer Jonathan Lau stated, “Monument Valley 3 wouldn’t feel like a Monument Valley game if it had to conform to the demands of a free-to-play model in order to exist. Consequently, it could only thrive on a subscription service, regardless of who provided it.

Currently, Monument Valley 3 has a Metacritic score of approximately 70 based on three reviews. Both the original Monument Valley and its sequel can also be found on Netflix. Since their initial releases had PC versions available later on, it’s plausible that Monument Valley 3 might follow suit. However, at present, it is exclusively accessible through Netflix.
