Capcom announced a free update for Monster Hunter Stories 3, scheduled for summer 2026, which will introduce a new, more challenging type of Monster. Unlike the main Monster Hunter games known for their fast-paced action, Monster Hunter Stories 3 is a turn-based RPG where players build friendships with a variety of creatures called Monsties, inspired by the popular monsters from the core series. The game has already proven to be quite successful.
Monster Hunter Stories 3 launched on March 13th and is already a hit with fans. As the third game in the Monster Hunter Stories series, it’s being praised for its engaging JRPG gameplay, which centers around raising and breeding powerful monsters called Monsties. The combat system blends elements from the main Monster Hunter games, letting players target specific enemy parts to reduce their attack power. Capcom recently announced a free update will be coming to the game just a few weeks after its release.
Monster Hunter Stories 3 Is Adding Royal Monsters
A new update is coming to Monster Hunter Stories 3 this summer, and it’s free! Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto announced that the update will introduce Royal Monsters – a powerful new type of monster – to the game. Players will need to reach level 90 before they can encounter these challenging foes in the overworld, so make sure your Monsties are well-trained! A specific release date hasn’t been announced yet.
Beyond the recent free update, the video also gave fans a peek at the upcoming Rudy DLC for Monster Hunter Stories 3. Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto shared that development of this paid expansion is going smoothly, and Capcom is even exploring the possibility of releasing it before the currently scheduled Fall 2026 date. The DLC will focus on Rudy, a Palico character from a long line of Azurian Royal Palicoes. Tsujimoto promised more details will be revealed as the release date approaches.
Okay, so Monster Hunter Stories 3 is already a huge game – I’m talking 40+ hours just for the main story, and probably over 100 if you want to see everything. But get this – they’re adding even more content with a free update and some paid DLC! I’m excited because there are tons of super powerful secret bosses to fight, like these crazy Calamitous Elder Dragons hiding in all four regions of the game. Plus, I’ve been really enjoying the Habitat Restoration system – it’s a fun way to find all sorts of different Monster Mutations and really customize my team. It just keeps getting better!
Monster Hunter Stories 3 is off to a strong start, building on the success of previous games in the series. It was the second best-selling game in Japan during its first week, only behind the popular Pokemon Pokopia. The previous installment, Monster Hunter Stories 2, sold over a million copies within two weeks of its 2021 release and was later made available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2024 and 2025, respectively. Monster Hunter Stories 3 appears to be a fantastic addition to the RPG spin-off line, offering a lot for fans to enjoy.
