Shoppers in Texas got quite a surprise at a Spirit Halloween store when a monkey, wearing a diaper, escaped and started playing all over the store like it was a jungle gym.
A primate got loose from its owner on October 27th at a crowded Spirit Halloween store in Plano. Witnesses say the animal became frightened by a moving Halloween decoration and then ran around the store for about 30 minutes. It ran across shelves, knocked things over, climbed pillars, and swung from the ceiling while shoppers watched in surprise.
“It was like being at a live animal show,” Arlene Pinkston explained to NBC News. She said her daughter was the first to notice the monkey.
My daughter was surprised when she saw something and asked if it was a real monkey. I looked up and, noticing it was wearing a diaper, replied that it probably was.
A video is circulating online showing a monkey, still in a diaper, running wild inside a store. It was seen scrambling over shelves and knocking things down as staff and shoppers attempted to catch it. Many onlookers simply watched the amusing, yet chaotic, scene as if it were a bizarre movie.

Store employee Jimmy Harris described the incident as amusing, adding that some children in the store playfully attempted to assist in catching the escaped animal.
When Plano police arrived, they found a monkey swinging from the ceiling, and confirmed the bizarre scene – officers reported seeing the animal wearing a diaper as it swung from the rafters.

The monkey chase ended surprisingly with a simple cookie. According to Lisa Barr, a representative from Spirit Halloween, the owner was able to get the monkey to come down by offering it as a treat.
The team acted fast and alerted local authorities, who arrived quickly. Surprisingly, they were able to safely lure the monkey back with a cookie, according to Barr. The animal was then identified with a tag and returned to its owner without any problems.
