MoistCr1TiKaL, a well-known content creator on YouTube and Twitch, has disabled all ways for viewers to send him money and is encouraging them to either save it or donate to charitable causes.
It’s always been debated whether large donations to streamers are a good thing, and it frequently appears in the news. Recently, a streamer was tragically murdered by someone who had given her almost $70,000.
Popular streamers like Asmongold and Tectone have suggested banning viewers who donate excessively. However, Charles White Jr., known as MoistCr1TiKaL, is taking a different approach – he’s actively making it difficult for fans to send him money.
The popular YouTube creator announced in a video posted on October 9th that they had turned off all ways to earn money on their channel, including features like Super Chat and channel memberships.
MoistCr1TiKaL urges viewers to donate to charity instead of giving him money
Charles not only disabled ways to make money on his YouTube channel, but he also set the minimum donation amount on Twitch incredibly high, essentially hoping no one will ever reach that level.
“Once you opt into the Partner program or whatever, you can’t turn off bits or subs,” he explained.
I’m unable to stop accepting subscriptions, and honestly, if I could, I would. I’d happily say goodbye and be done with it. But it seems there are a lot of complicated steps involved in making that happen. So, I really need to ask you not to spend money subscribing to my Twitch channel.
Asmongold initially streamed on a new Twitch account that wasn’t eligible for advertisements. However, Twitch became concerned about lost revenue due to his large audience and eventually required him to enable monetization.
Moist recently advised his viewers to be extra careful with their money, especially given current economic challenges. He strongly encouraged them to prioritize their own financial stability, saying it’s important to hold onto their funds rather than impulsively donating to creators like himself.
If you’re looking to spend money, he’s asking you to consider donating to a charity instead.
There are many worthwhile charities doing amazing work, and your donation would make a real difference to them. It would be much more impactful to give to one of them than to give to me.
MoistCr1TiKal announced he’s completely removing the ability for viewers to donate, explaining that after previously discouraging donations, he’s now decided to stop accepting them altogether.
I should have done this sooner, but I kept telling myself I needed to provide something worthwhile for those who were supporting me financially. However, I don’t think it’s a good use of anyone’s money to donate during a livestream just to get my attention for a moment. It simply doesn’t feel right.
I’m really curious to see if other streamers pick up on this – it could be a big shift in how things are done if they do!
