It’s been almost 20 years since the release of Rockstar Games’ Bully, and although a sequel hasn’t been announced, fans now have a new way to experience the game: a mod that adds online multiplayer to the high school simulator.
A team of modders has announced Bully Online, a multiplayer version of the classic game. The project is led by SWEGTA, a popular YouTuber and developer who is a big fan of Bully. After a long development process, they’re aiming to release an early access version in December 2025 for supporters on Ko-Fi. As of today, they’ve received at least 76 contributions on Ko-Fi.
So, what exactly is Bully Online? The YouTube video explains it lets you and your friends play various minigames, role-play, race, and even defend against computer-controlled characters, among other things. SWEGTA’s detailed video describes it as a blend of minigames, open-world exploration, and role-playing. The mod features a complete inventory system where you can earn money to buy items, houses, and vehicles within the game. It seems similar to the online experiences offered in other Rockstar titles like GTA Online and Red Dead Online.
Supporting the project on Ko-fi with $8 per month (or a one-time donation of $8) unlocks extra benefits starting in December. These include exclusive content like developer insights, a special blue nametag in-game, an in-game camera for saving and sharing up to 10 photos, faster access to the game servers, and a special role on our Discord server with access to a private chat channel where you can talk directly with the mod developers.
Look, I’m happy to see anything new from this series, and it’s great they’re still supporting it. But honestly, I’m still holding out hope for Bully 2! Apparently, according to Dan Houser, one of the founders of Rockstar, they just never had the resources to actually make it. He’s not saying it’ll never happen, but we shouldn’t expect it anytime soon, that’s for sure.
Speaking with IGN at LA Comic Con in September 2025, Houser explained that a small creative and leadership team limits the number of projects a company can realistically handle. They were attempting to work on two projects simultaneously with a limited team and were grappling with the challenge of keeping both moving forward.
