A YouTuber successfully combined the internal components of a Nintendo Switch Lite with a Wii U GamePad, resulting in a portable gaming device that appears to be a pristine Wii U controller but actually functions as a Switch.
A modder named Kouzex recently posted a video about a new project. He explained that it started with noticing online discussions where people wanted the comfortable design of the Wii U GamePad combined with the Switch’s ability to be played on the go.
Someone doubted I could actually fit a Switch’s guts inside a GamePad, so naturally, I had to prove them wrong. It just became a personal challenge at that point!
Before he began, he established five key goals for the project. The resulting GamePad needed all its buttons functioning, maintain its original appearance, use genuine Switch components instead of software simulations, and be tough enough to withstand being carried around—plus, it had to be an improvement over the Switch Lite.

Kouzex chose a Switch Lite for this project because it made the wiring much simpler and eliminated the need for separate Joy-Con controllers and their power source. The process involved taking apart both consoles, carefully trimming parts inside, fitting everything into the GamePad’s casing, and then reconnecting all the buttons.
After installing the new hardware, he replaced the Switch Lite’s screen with an OLED panel, ensuring the modified device was an improvement over the original.
He felt the finished product looked almost unchanged and called it a subtle upgrade. He clarified that each button on the Gamepad functioned exactly like its corresponding button on the Switch, except the TV button was reprogrammed to take screenshots.
Kouzex identified two main issues with the system. First, it lacks a cartridge slot, but he doesn’t see this as a major problem since games can be downloaded and installed digitally. Second, he noted the system runs about five degrees warmer than a standard Switch Lite and intends to look into why.
