Modder Adds Thomas The Tank Engine To Morrowind, Hints At Legal Threats From Mattel

You might have seen the funny mods that add Thomas the Tank Engine to games like Fallout 4, Resident Evil Village, and Skyrim. Those were mostly created by a modder called Trainwiz. Now, Trainwiz has done it again, putting Thomas into The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind. He’s also suggested that Mattel, the makers of Thomas, aren’t too happy about his creations.

Trainwiz recently uploaded a mod to Nexus Mods that replaces the flying cliff racers in the game with Thomas the Tank Engine. Along with the mod, Trainwiz posted comments that seemed to be a playful challenge directed at Mattel.

Trainwiz created a modification for a game that swaps out the enemies called ‘cliffracers’ with the character Thomas the Tank Engine. They also explained that they struggle to learn from experiences involving large companies, stating they don’t see the heads of those companies as individuals.

Trainwiz explained that while balancing game development and surviving mishaps, he occasionally overuses a joke until it’s run its course. He’s determined to do this, even if it means facing legal action, threats, or unsettling deliveries like Barbie heads with the Mattel logo appearing on black vans.

According to IGN, modder Trainwiz revealed in a 2019 interview with The Face that his popular Fallout 4 mod featuring Thomas the Tank Engine caught the attention of Mattel’s legal team, and the resulting interaction wasn’t positive.

Trainwiz explained he was in serious trouble. Apparently, Mattel is furious with him, which is why the Fallout 4 mod isn’t available on typical websites.

While Mattel might not be happy with Trainwiz’s work, Bethesda has previously praised them. Despite the recent release of an updated version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, a fan project called Skyblivon – a complete reimagining of the game – is almost finished after a decade of work.
