“Mo” has revealed a new set of guest stars along with its Season 2 trailer.
In the second season, we have comedians Hannibal Buress, Matt Rife, Liza Koshy, and Ralph Barbosa, as well as rapper Slim Thug, joining previously announced guest performers Simon Rex and Johanna Braddy.
The show begins by Mo (one of the series creators, Mo Amer) expressing his frustration to Barbosa, who appears to be a street food vendor, about being stranded in Mexico for six months. This scenario picks up from where Season 1 ended, with Mo unintentionally ending up in Mexico instead of Houston due to his status as an undocumented Palestinian refugee and lacking a passport. Barbosa questions Mo’s eagerness to return to America: “Mo, why do you long for America so much?” Barbosa then points out that Mo has been moving around the embassy aimlessly for months.
In the show, Rife is portrayed as having a disagreement with an official at the embassy, to which Mo takes exception. “Perhaps you should accept that: You’re Mexican now. Happy birthday,” Rife retorts sarcastically, using the Spanish term for ‘happy birthday.’ (Koshy makes a brief appearance in the trailer. Burress is seen only in a recently released image from the season where he dons a white lab coat in a drugstore. Slim Thug is also shown in a new image, standing outside with a worried Mo.)
Towards the end of the preview, Mo walks across a wide river accompanied by several distressed individuals. Later, a judge’s voice is heard stating, “You unlawfully entered the United States. A deportation order has been issued against you.” Subsequently, he gets an ankle monitor fitted, yet the trailer suggests that he persists in his battle for asylum, questioning his attorney (Lee Eddy) about the possibility of him traveling with his mother (Farah Bsieso) and brother (Omar Elba) to Palestine.
While coming back to the U.S., Mo unexpectedly finds out that his girlfriend, Maria (Teresa Ruiz), is now in a relationship with someone else named Rex. This leads to a heated confrontation between them where Mo angrily exclaims, “You’re nothing but a fake!
The series ‘Mo’ is executive produced by Amer, along with co-creator Ramy Youssef, Harris Danow, director Solvan “Slick” Naim, Jacqui Rivera, and Azhar Usman. A24 is the production company, and the second season premieres on January 30th.
