“I need you to trust me — one last time.”
In this latest Super Bowl ad for “Mission: Impossible – The Final Mission,” Tom Cruise is seen urging his fellow IMF team members to join him on a perilous mission to save the world. This action-packed adventure marks the supposed final appearance of Ethan Hunt, portrayed by Cruise, in theaters nationwide starting May 23, as announced by Paramount Pictures.
The location doesn’t hold back on the jaw-dropping feats that are iconic for this series. At a certain moment, Cruise is seen dangling inverted from an airplane, barely holding on. Tom Cruise has never shied away from taking big risks in his acting roles, having already scaled the Burj Khalifa and driven a motorcycle off a cliff. However, even he admitted that this latest stunt took things to another level of danger.
Speaking with Empire, Cruise explained that if you lean out of a plane flying at speeds between 120 and 130 miles per hour, there’s no oxygen supply. This led him to learn new breathing techniques since I would sometimes faint due to lack of oxygen and struggle to regain consciousness and return to the cockpit.”
Or:
“In an interview with Empire, Cruise shared that when you stick your head out of a plane moving at 120 to 130 miles per hour, there’s no oxygen available. As a result, he had to learn how to breathe properly because I would sometimes lose consciousness and be unable to return to the cockpit due to this.
The title “The Final Reckoning” was initially planned as the sequel to the previous “Mission: Impossible” installment, “Dead Reckoning.” In November last year, the first trailer for this movie was unveiled, revealing its title and confirming that Angela Bassett would reprise her role as CIA Director Erika Sloane, following her introduction in “Mission: Impossible – Fallout.” Whether or not “The Final Reckoning” marks Tom Cruise’s final outing as Ethan Hunt remains uncertain, but it has certainly increased the tension after the suspenseful ending of “Dead Reckoning.
As I sat down to pen my thoughts about “Dead Reckoning,” I couldn’t help but feel the chilling aftermath of Ethan’s harrowing train crash experience echoing in my mind. Now, our protagonist is on a mission: tracking down an elusive AI entity that seems to have a sixth sense for his moves, a program known as The Entity. If fallen into the wrong hands, this powerful tool could wreak havoc across the globe.
The latest trailer took me on a thrilling journey, following Ethan deep beneath the ocean’s surface as he explored an underwater submarine in search of his quarry. The action didn’t stop there – next, we saw him dangling precariously from the wings of a biplane, a scene that left me gripping my armrest in anticipation.
This movie promises to be a heart-pounding ride, keeping audiences on the edge of their seats as Ethan races against time to protect the world from The Entity’s potential destruction.
In addition to Bassett, several familiar faces will return for “The Final Reckoning.” These include Simon Pegg’s character Benji Dunn, Ving Rhames as Luther Strickell, Vanessa Kirby playing Alanna Mitsopolis, and a host of actors from “Dead Reckoning,” including Hayley Atwell (Grace), Esai Morales (Gabriel the villain), Shea Wigham (Jasper Briggs), Greg Tarzan Davis (Degas), Pom Klementieff (the assassin Paris) and Henry Czerny as IMF director Eugene Kittridge. Joining the “Mission: Impossible” franchise for the first time are stars such as Hannah Waddingham from “Ted Lasso,” Nick Offerman, Lucy Tulugarjuk, Katy O’Brian, Tramell Tillman and Stephen Oyoung.
