Miso Film Sweden is adapting Linn Ullmann’s celebrated novel “The Cold Song” into a six-part TV series, airing on SVT and Film i Väst. This production will be helmed by Mikael Marcimain, renowned for his work on “Blackwater” and “The Hunt for a Killer.” The series is anticipated to delve deeply into the complexities of family relationships and uncover long-buried secrets.
The Lullaby of Coldness” explores the lives of Siri, a proprietor of a restaurant, and her writer spouse Jon, who balance their hectic schedules in Stockholm with rearing their two girls. In the tranquil summers, they escape to Siri’s coastal childhood home in Sweden for peace. But this peaceful summer takes an unexpected twist when their nanny, Mille, vanishes during a gathering, compelling the family to uncover hidden secrets and confront long-held guilt.
Filming for the upcoming series is set to start along the scenic Swedish West Coast in autumn 2025, wrapping up amidst the wintry charm of Stockholm. The series will make its debut on SVT in autumn 2026, as part of their New8 collaboration, a partnership announced in 2023. This means it will simultaneously air across Sweden, the Nordic countries, Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands.
Marcimain characterizes the series as a narrative exploring three generations of women and their strained connections, their journey towards reconciliation: ” ‘The Cold Song’ is a tale that delves into three generations of women, their strained relationships, and their pursuit of harmony. It’s a drama that transitions from sunny summers to ominous autumns, from tranquility to sorrow. It’s a captivating yet haunting story, and I can hardly wait to bring it to life on television.
As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled beyond words about the upcoming adaptation of my novel, “The Cold Song.” This captivating tale weaves through themes of love, skepticism, hidden lives, and deep connections that tug at heartstrings. I can hardly wait to join Mikael and his dedicated team as they breathe life into this story on the silver screen.
