Minions 3’s Real Title Revealed In First Trailer For Upcoming Sequel

More Minion madness is coming to the big screen soon.

A sneak peek at Minions 3 debuted during Super Bowl LX. This is the third Minions movie and the seventh film in the Despicable Me series, all created by Pierre Coffin, who also voices characters in the film. While details about the plot have been secret since it was announced in 2024, the new trailer gives fans their first glimpse of the movie, which is set to come out this summer.

Okay, so after Despicable Me 4, the Minions franchise is going back to tell us more about how Gru became the villain we know and love. It’s basically a prequel, showing his early days and all the wacky stuff he and his Minions got up to as he tried to become a supervillain. I’m really excited to see how it all started!

Released in 2010, Despicable Me quickly became a popular animated movie. The films feature a talented voice cast including Steve Carell, Miranda Cosgrove, Dana Gaier, Julie Andres, Jason Segel, and Kristen Wiig. Director Pierre Coffin has directed five of the seven movies in the Despicable Me franchise, with Minions: The Rise of Gru marking the first time he’s been the sole director. The franchise has earned a total of $5.6 billion around the world.

The Minions franchise is incredibly popular and profitable. The most recent film, Minions: The Rise of Gru (2022), earned $937.7 million worldwide, and the original Minions (2015) remains one of Universal’s biggest successes – the sixth highest-grossing film and second highest-grossing animated film ever for the studio, having made $1.1 billion globally. Because of this strong track record, a third Minions movie, planned for summer 2026, is expected to be a major hit.

Several big movies are planned for the summer, including Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. However, the films most likely to attract audiences similar to Minions 3 are Toy Story 5 (coming out June 19th) and the live-action remake of Moana (July 10th). It’s likely these three films were intentionally released a few weeks apart to give each one space to succeed.

Minions 3 will release in theaters on July 1, 2026.
