Baby animals have been part of Minecraft for some time, and they’re getting a cute update soon! Mojang Studios has previewed redesigned baby versions of popular mobs, and they’re currently being tested. Once the update is released, the developers say wolf pups, kittens, piglets, calves, baby chickens, baby ocelots, lambs, and baby rabbits will be even more adorable, fluffy, and plump than before.
In a new video, game director Agnes Larsson shared that the game’s baby creatures used to simply be smaller versions of the adults. With this update, baby animals are getting unique designs and brand new sounds recorded from actual animals.
So, Larsen was telling me how they tweaked the little baby mobs to look even more adorable – apparently, it’s a subtle thing with their faces that really makes them seem younger. It’s a neat detail!
Larsen explained that most creatures in Minecraft usually have two-pixel eyes. However, baby versions of these creatures now only have one, giving them a cuter and more endearing look.
Players can now give their baby mobs custom names! Using craftable labels made with paper and any metal nugget, you can personalize your little creatures. You can test out these features today in the latest Java snapshot and Bedrock beta preview.
Mojang Studios launched the Mounts of Mayhem update in December, adding rideable animals and other improvements to the game. Apple also reported that Minecraft was a top-performing game on the App Store in 2025.
