Milo Ventimiglia Chokes Up After Seeing Malibu Home Burn Down on Security Cameras, Eerie ‘This Is Us’ Parallel: ‘It’s Not Lost on Me, Life Imitating Art’

Milo Ventimiglia‘s family home in Malibu has burnt down, the actor shared on Thursday night.

During a chat with CBS News, the actor from “This Is Us” revealed that he and his expectant wife, Jarah Mariano, had to leave their house on January 7th. Subsequently, they monitored as the Palisades Fire spread across their property through security cameras. (At the time of publication, the Palisades Fire has consumed almost 20,000 acres of land.)

As the pair could only take a multitude of possessions with them, they were forced to abandon the objects in their newly completed nursery, leaving it all behind. It was on a Thursday that he went back to revisit the location where his old house used to be.

The couple managed to collect as many things as they could, but they had no choice but to leave untouched their recently completed nursery and everything within it. Last Thursday, he made a return trip to the area to find where his home previously stood.

He expressed that it felt very heavy,” he said, fighting back tears. “As you begin to reflect on the memories stored across various areas of the house, and then you look at your neighbors’ homes and the surroundings, a deep sadness washes over you.

In that video interview, I shared my feelings about witnessing everything unfold from a distance. “There’s a moment of shock when you realize this is truly happening,” I explained. “After that, it becomes difficult to keep watching. What purpose does it serve to continue observing?” I added, reflecting on the harrowing sight of my home being consumed by flames through security footage. “In the end, we accepted the loss.

They acknowledged this situation since, as he pointed out, what they had lost were merely material possessions. “We have valuable friendships and are fortunate to work with great individuals,” he stated. “Our family – wife, baby, and dog – is our top priority, and we’ll find a way to move forward.

On multiple occasions, Ventimiglia has discussed fire safety, as he played the role of Jack Pearson on NBC’s “This Is Us” for six seasons. During Season 2, his character saved his family from a house fire; however, he tragically perished later due to complications from smoke inhalation while heroically trying to save their dog and some belongings.

“It’s not lost on me, life imitating art,” he said during the CBS interview.

In 2018, after the heart-wrenching house fire scene in “This Is Us,” Ventimiglia shared his experiences with filming such a distressing situation in an interview with EbMaster.

A fire was directly in front of me, just steps away. At times, the sharp sound of the gas line’s hiss – think a high-pitched whine – would be drowned out by the intense roar of the actual fire, which was powerful and threatening, a sound I hope no one ever has to experience,” he stated.

Currently, the actor is collaborating with Duracell for the promotion of fire safety. As per recent reports from CBS, he’s already brainstorming ways to educate people about wildfire safety in the times ahead.
