Milly Alcock is taking on the famous role of Supergirl in the DC universe, and she’s bringing her own unique perspective to the character. As excitement grows for her portrayal, Alcock is sharing her thoughts on how she’s developing the role.
Supergirl’s Milly Alcock on why she didn’t talk to Sasha Calle or Melissa Benoist
Milly Alcock, who plays Supergirl, decided not to contact previous actresses who’ve played the role, such as Sasha Calle and Melissa Benoist, when she was preparing. She wanted to create her own unique interpretation of the character and stay focused on her vision. As she explained, they’re just individuals going about their lives, and there wasn’t a special connection between them. Alcock preferred to rely on her own instincts and build the performance independently (according to Vanity Fair).
This approach isn’t limited to this particular job. Alcock also mentioned she prefers not to rely too much on her fellow actors for guidance. For example, while acting with Julianne Moore in ‘Sirens,’ she didn’t see it as a learning opportunity where Moore would teach her, but as a collaborative experience.
She emphasized that the actors aren’t obligated to meet everyone’s expectations, demonstrating a healthy professional distance. Taking on the role of Supergirl has been challenging, and Alcock acknowledged feeling the pressure, particularly from fans. ‘I’m definitely scared,’ she confessed. ‘I want the movie and my performance to be well-received, but at the end of the day, there’s only so much I can do.’
Emma D’Arcy first gained recognition for her role as young Rhaenyra Targaryen in the popular series House of the Dragon. This success led to other opportunities, including a part in the Netflix show Sirens, and now she’s starring in a major film for Warner Bros. – a significant achievement for her. Before her breakthrough, D’Arcy proactively contacted agents, driven by financial need. She credits her mother with giving her the confidence to do so, always encouraging her with the attitude, ‘If they can do it, so can you!’
Melissa Benoist’s portrayal of Kara Zor-El will center on her personal growth. According to Alcock, this Kara is burdened by her duties and more concerned with self-discovery than with just being a hero. This approach promises a richer, more complex character and a more meaningful superhero story.
