Mike Tirico Will Lead NBC’s New NBA Coverage

Mike Tirico is quickly becoming a sportscaster for all seasons at NBC.

The long-time broadcaster, who is currently responsible for play-by-play commentary during “Sunday Night Football” and hosts prime-time coverage of the Olympics, is set to assume a significant position when NBC acquires NBA rights in the fall of next year. It’s anticipated that he will participate in one or more games each week once NBC Sports finishes its NFL and Milan Cortina Olympic Winter Games coverage in February 2026. Prior to this, he will broadcast select games, including the NBA season opener in October 2025.

Beginning in the fall, NBC signs a 11-season contract with the NBA. This agreement allows NBC or its streaming service Peacock to provide weekly coverage for three consecutive nights.

Tirico has a long history with professional basketball, having broadcasted approximately 375 regular-season and playoff games from 2002 to 2016 for ABC, ESPN, and ESPN Radio. From 2003 to 2005, Tirico served as the primary studio host for ESPN’s NBA coverage, including the NBA Finals.

NBC Sports’ Sam Flood expressed enthusiasm about the return of Big Event Mike Tirico to his courtside position as the NBA resumes on NBC and Peacock. In a statement, he declared, ‘Mike Tirico, with his versatility across various sports events like the Olympics, Sunday Night Football, major golf tournaments, and now the NBA, is undeniably the most adaptable voice in sports broadcasting.’

As a dedicated cinema-goer of hoops, I’ve got to say that NBC is moving swiftly in gathering its dream team for their NBA coverage. Just this month, they’ve tapped Jamal Crawford, a 20-season basketball warrior, as one of their game analysts. Additionally, Frank DiGraci, an experienced producer who has been crafting Nets games for YES, has been appointed as the coordinating producer for their NBA telecasts.
