Mike Leigh to Shoot Next Film This Year

On the same day “Hard Truths” hits U.K. movie theaters, information about Mike Leigh‘s upcoming film, a director not typically associated with high volume work, is already available.

According to tradition with the unconventional British director, specifics are scarce, but the upcoming project is set to be filmed this year and will bring Leigh back together with his collaborators from “Hard Truths”, namely Cornerstone, Bleecker Street, Studiocanal, and financier Film4. Once more, Bleecker Street will handle distribution in the U.S., while StudioCanal retains rights for the U.K.

Once more, Georgina Lowe from Thin Man Films based in Leigh will serve as the producer. Additionally, Desmar will contribute financially to the project by becoming an equity investor.

At the upcoming European Film Market, I’ll be proudly introducing our latest film title to potential buyers.

Similarly to “Hard Truths,” currently there’s no disclosure about the storyline, characters, or name. Following Leigh’s tradition, the upcoming movie will be filmed under the working title of “Untitled 2025.

Titled “Hard Truths,” this movie released in January by Bleeker Street, features Marianne Jean-Baptiste as a woman plagued by fear, suffering from afflictions, and often lashing out at her husband, son, and others around her. It received BAFTA nominations for Best British Film and Leading Actress (for Jean-Baptiste), marking her reunion with Leigh since “Secrets & Lies.” However, it did not receive any Oscar nominations.
