has quickly become a notable horror director, and a key to his success is his work with Stephen King. He’s already brought several of King’s stories to the screen, and he’s now preparing to adapt another one of the author’s most famous novels.
A new limited series reboot of Carrie is in the works from director Mike Flanagan, and it’s just one of several Stephen King adaptations he’s planning. While Flanagan previously created shows for Netflix, he’s now working with Prime Video. Before the series is scheduled to premiere in 2026, actor Matthew Lillard, known for his work in horror films, has already spoken highly of it.
The actor spoke highly of Flanagan, calling him a talented director and collaborator. He described working with Flanagan on ‘Carrie’ as a six-month period of excellent work, praising Flanagan’s clear guidance, genuine care for his actors, and skill as a storyteller.
He added that the strong bonds of friendship and teamwork made everything worthwhile.
Mike Flanagan frequently collaborates with a core group of actors, and Billy Lillard recently joined that group with his role in Flanagan’s adaptation of The Life of Chuck. Lillard expressed his admiration for Flanagan, both professionally and personally, and also praised Flanagan’s wife, Kate Siegel, who has appeared in many of Flanagan’s projects, including the upcoming Carrie adaptation.
I really enjoy spending time with his friends, and now I consider them my friends too. It’s rare to be on a set and genuinely like everyone involved. We all stay in touch and hang out even when we’re not working. Having close friendships with your coworkers makes life so much better. It means you enjoy going to work – you can connect with people, do your job, and provide for your family.
He explained that moments of connection happen throughout life, especially in this industry. But he also emphasized his strong relationship with Mike, saying he’d always be there for him – that a call from Mike would bring immediate action, and that supporting a friend like that is what truly matters.
Who Else Stars in Carrie?
The new Carrie limited series is inspired by Stephen King’s 1974 novel, a story that’s been adapted for the screen many times before. While several versions exist, Brian De Palma’s 1976 film is still considered the most iconic.
Summer H. Howell will star as Carrie White, and Samantha Sloyan, who often works with director Mike Flanagan, will play her strict mother. The cast also includes Michael Trucco, Rahul Kohli, Heather Graham, and Amber Midthunder.
In late October, Flanagan stated he was finishing up work on the project, describing it as a career highlight and praising the cast and crew as one of his favorite collaborations ever.
Carrie is expected to premiere on Prime Video in 2026.
