It is said that Microsoft plans to introduce a fresh installment from a well-known Japanese franchise during its Xbox Developer Direct event on January 23. In addition to this new title, Microsoft will also unveil Doom: The Dark Ages, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and South of Midnight.
As reported by Windows Central, this upcoming game carries a rich history spanning over several decades, which has left many fans eagerly anticipating its release. Since the description is somewhat vague, speculation about the title abounds. One popular guess is that it could be a new installment in the Ninja Gaiden franchise, given its deep-rooted association with Xbox platforms, where games like Ninja Gaiden Black and Ninja Gaiden 2 were originally released.
On the contrary, as The Game Kitchen and Koei Tecmo have just unveiled Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound in a 2D side-scrolling format, it seems less probable that we’ll see another full-fledged 3D installment soon.
Could it be Resident Evil 9, given that Capcom has confirmed a new installment is underway, led by the same director as Resident Evil 7? It’s also possible we’ll see a new Tales game announced, seeing as the series turns 30 this year.
It’s plausible that we might hear about a new Persona 6 game, considering Atlus has been rather secretive about their 2025 plans following a strong lineup of releases in 2024, including Persona 3 Reload, Unicorn Overlord, and Metaphor: ReFantazio.
It’s also worth mentioning that the anticipated Final Fantasy VII Remake might be coming to Xbox platforms around the same time this year.
