Microsoft Reveals Next Xbox Is ‘Very Premium,’ Very Expensive

If you’re planning to buy a next-generation console, you should start putting money aside now. Microsoft says the new hardware will be expensive, but it will offer a lot of power for the price.

Recently, rumors spread that Microsoft might be moving away from traditional console development to focus more on software and streaming services. However, Microsoft has denied these reports, pointing to ongoing partnerships with AMD for its next-generation consoles, which suggests they still plan to compete in the console market.

Xbox’s President Says The Next Console Will Be Expensive

Although details are scarce about Microsoft’s next Xbox, Xbox President Sarah Bond recently shared some insight in a YouTube interview with Mashable. When questioned about speculation that the new console would resemble a gaming PC, Bond discussed Microsoft’s plans for the future of Xbox.

According to Bond, the upcoming console will offer a top-of-the-line, carefully designed experience. She likened its approach to the ROG Xbox Ally X, a handheld gaming device that has received criticism for being expensive.

High Prices Could Kill Xbox For Good

Look, I get the idea of a super powerful, expensive Xbox, but honestly, I think it could really hurt them. If people are after a top-of-the-line gaming experience, they’ll just build a PC anyway – and PCs do a whole lot more than just games, you know?

Consoles are popular because they’re relatively inexpensive to buy – they make their profit from game sales. If a console costs too much upfront, people are less likely to buy it. Xbox releasing its previously exclusive games on other platforms removes a major reason to choose Xbox specifically, unless you prioritize better performance.

We don’t yet know how much the PlayStation 6 will cost, but it’s possible the console with the lower price will gain an early advantage, similar to what happened with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
