Xbox is exploring a new feature where, instead of offering game guides when you’re stuck, it could actually play the difficult parts of a game for you.
By 2026, artificial intelligence is poised to become a more direct part of the gaming experience. Sony is testing an AI “assistant” that can guide players through difficult sections, and even take control when they get stuck. Microsoft is also developing a similar feature, called Copilot, that will provide real-time advice, summaries of gameplay, and help manage system settings.
Now, a new Microsoft patent leans into getting unstuck fast with an AI helper
Microsoft’s patent pitched cloud helpers who can take the controller
On February 12, 2026, Microsoft filed a patent application for a new video game help system. This cloud-based system aims to provide assistance directly within the game, eliminating the need to switch to a browser for guides or YouTube videos. Microsoft described current help methods as basic and outdated.

The basic concept is to let a friend assist you while you play. The game would load your progress, initiate a connection, and then stream your gameplay to your helper, who could control the game and send instructions back to you.
Once you request assistance, the system shares the current game status with the helper. Essentially, someone else handles the difficult part, and you resume playing with an improved game experience.
This patent illustrates how the system functions by providing several examples, such as racing and adventure games, among others.

One of the patent’s diagrams illustrated how Microsoft envisioned the feature working when a player gets stuck. The document explained that many gamers stop playing when they get frustrated trying to find a rare item. In this situation, the system would display a prominent HELP button. If the player tapped it, a pop-up window would appear, offering assistance in finding the item and giving them the option to accept or decline.
The idea was for the system to monitor when players repeatedly failed at something, detect when they returned to that spot, and then offer helpful advice right when they needed it.
Microsoft is preparing AI assistants like ChatGPT and Gemini to provide help, alongside human support. They’ve developed systems to automatically start and end help sessions, and are also working on features to ensure the AI is age-appropriate, accurately credits accomplishments, and filters inappropriate content.
